Coffee is an essential part of my morning routine. It’s my morning beverage of choice, and I usually keep a cup on hand well until the mid-afternoon.
While I love my keto coffee, I’ve been interested in the butter coffee trend. I was apprehensive at first since, you know, it’s just butter and coffee, but since I gave it a try, I’ve been hooked.

Why I love this recipe
- Tastes great. The texture of butter coffee is remarkably smooth and has a creamy flavor. Once I started making these at home, I had no trouble ditching my daily Starbucks latte.
- It’s cheaper. While store-bought creamers and specialty coffees can be convenient, making them at home is always more cost-effective.
- Fast. Just add all the ingredients to your blender and give it a blend.
- Keeps you full. The butter helps make you feel satisfied, so if you skipped breakfast or are pushing through a hard workout, this will help prevent crashing.
Ingredients needed
- Brewed coffee. Obviously, the start of the show is coffee, but you’ll want to look for high-quality coffee beans since some can contain mold toxins. I prefer dark-roasted coffee, but you can use any roast.
- Grass-fed unsalted butter. I suggest using grass-fed butter because it has a higher concentration of certain vitamins and a richer, creamier texture.
- MCT oil. Basically a dietary supplement made up of medium-chain triglycerides. It’s a type of healthy fat derived from coconut oil that’s believed to aid in mental focus and energy and increase ketone production (source).

Arman’s recipe tips
- Switch up the butter. If you don’t have grass-fed butter, I recommend using ghee, or if you want to make a vegan coffee, use coconut oil or vegan butter.
- Use a milk frother. If I don’t feel like dirtying a blender, I’ll melt the butter in my coffee cup, add the rest of the ingredients, and use a milk frother to blend.
- Make iced coffee. Serve it over ice or use my cold brew concentrate.
How to store leftovers
To store: I recommend enjoying your coffee fresh since the oils will harden in the fridge. That said, you could store leftover coffee in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for 1-2 days, then microwave it when you’re ready to drink.
To freeze: Store leftover coffee in an ice cube tray, freeze it, then store the ice cubes in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. To reblend, add the cubes to a blender with a splash of water or coffee.
